Skip (not really necessary):

Before adding the suffix sh check to see if a helping vowel is needed.

With time you will naturally add the additional vowels as you speak.

Rule: If a word ends in two consonants add a helping vowel.

Here, the helping vowel is shown in red:

makuntish = I wasn't

The stem ends in
nt. Hence, i is added before the sh.”

But how do we know wether to add an and not a u or a?

You don't. Pick it up as you go.

Helping vowels are added to words that already end in a vowel.

Meaning if a word ends in a vowel just add another of the same vowel
prior to the sh.”

The helping vowel is shown in red:

makunnaash = we weren't

The above word ends in the vowel
a. Therefore, another helping vowel a is added prior to the sh.”

Helping vowels "soften" words the "hard" consonants.

Vowels "s-t-r-e-t-ch" words to easily add on the suffixes.
